Types Of Racing Bets

There are many types of racing bets.

Win - You will need to select the horse which is going to win the race. Wagering on a horse to win will usually allow you to get a terrific pay out, but you will find much easier wagers to win, which we are about to check out.

Place You will need to pick the horse which is going to come in first or second in the race.

Show - You will need to pick the horse which is going to come in first, second or third in the race. As you are betting with a greater margin, the odds for any place bet will likely be small compared to for a Win or a Place, and you will probably win less cash, but there is a far better possibility of earning.

Exacta - The purpose is to select the two horses which will complete first and second in the race in the correct order. Alternatively, you can use an Exacta Box wager. With the box bet, you choose the two horses that will come in first and second, but they can finish in any order for you to win.

Quinella - You select the horses that will finish first and second in the race. Like the Exacta Box bet, either one may be first and the other one second. The two types of bets work in the same way, but the payoff amounts may differ considerably.

Trifecta - This bet works like the Exacta, except you will choose the three horses who will finish first, second and third in the race in the correct order. This is a difficult bet to win, but if you do, it provides extraordinary winnings. You may also wager with a Trifecta Box, which does not require you to choose the horses in the correct order.

Superfecta - This bet is a step up from the Trifecta. You will need to select the top four horses in the correct order or wager a Superfecta Box in which the horses may finish in any order.

Additional kinds of horse racing bets allow you to bet on multiple races.

Daily Double - You will need to pick the winner of two consecutive races.

Pick 3 - This is similar to the Daily Double. You have to pick the winning horse in three consecutive races.

Pick 4 - Pick the winning horse in four consecutive races.

Pick 6 - You must select the winning horses in six consecutive races. Some tracks provide a Pick 7 rather than a Pick 6, but the majority tracks have moved away from this since the bet was too difficult to win and too costly to experiment with effectively, making it unappealing to gamblers.
